1

Sir,

With reference to your letter 2245/3.F of the 6th July 1902, on the subject of land on Stonecutters' Island, I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to inform you that the points for immediate settlement are the definition of the boundaries of Stonecutter West and South Shore Batteries, and the assessment of the value per acre of the land required for building purposes at the present time.

2.

I am to forward a tracing shewing south west of the blue line the land which is considered to have been taken into War Department occupation, and to have become Colonial Military land with the acquiescence of the Colonial Authorities, on the construction of the existing works.

3.

The value to be set on land outside the blue line, now required for building, should if possible be arranged with the Colonial Government, and failing agreement be referred to arbitration.

4. It is to be observed that not only is the whole of the island considered as military reserve, and

80

General Officer Commanding in China and Hong Kong,

Hong Kong.
